St. Stephen's Small Groups

and Ministries

 

We have many active ministries and small groups at St. Stephen's, and everyone is more than welcome to participate in any ministry or group of interest.    Please contact us and join right in:

 

Exploring and Fostering Spiritual Growth

 

Contemplative Prayer Group.  Meets every Thursday from 8am to 9am at the church for gospel reflection and contemplative prayer.  Email Zoila Schoenbrun at dicknzoila@aol.com.

 

Cursillo is a short course in Christianity – The original small group experience.  Rediscover your deep faith in Christ.  For further information visit www.marincursillo.org.

Social Groups

 

Couples Group is an active social and support group for all couples seeking to explore the spiritual aspects of their relationships.  The group meets every other month for a variety of fun and interesting activities including dinners, pot-lucks, bible studies, mentoring, conferences and discussions.  The group hosts an annual couple's retreat as well.   Email Jim Ward at jimward@ststephenschurch.org.

Hiking Group members meets the fourth Sunday of each month for hiking in the Marin hills.  Email Ginny Preston at diefen@attglobal.net.

 

Film Group meets Friday evenings to watch and discuss local movies.  Email Kathi Von Fischer at kvf@well.com.

 

Mens’ Group meets every Saturday at 8 AM at the Dipsea Café.  Email Jan Gullet at jangullett@att.net.

 

All Parish Weekend (usually in March or early April) is an annual opportunity for the parish to come together for a weekend at the Bishop’s Ranch Retreat Center in Healdsburg.  Email Molly Arthur at molly@alliancenetworkgroup.com.

 

 

Service to Others

 

Hot meals for the Homeless at Westminster Presbyterian meets at 11:30 am on the fourth Thursday of each month at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon to prepare and serve lunch to the homeless. Contact Martha Renstchler (415-381-8723.

 

Hot meals for the Homeless at Kol Shofar.  This group of volunteers meets at 12:15 pm on the third Sunday of each month to prepare and serve a vegetarian lunch for Marin-area homeless at Kol Shofar Synagogue in Tiburon.  Email Molly

Hot meals for the Homeless at Homeward Bound Mill Street Center. The second Thursday of each month we provide breakfast and lunch to residents of Homeward Bound’s Mill Street Center. Our members prepare dishes in their homes to be delivered to the site.  Contact Ann

Tiburon Thrift Shop.  Members volunteer their time to work in the Thrift Shop from either 10am to 1pm or 1 to 4pm on Thursdays.  Volunteers work one three-hour shift per month.  Contact June Campbell (415-789-8940).  We share proceeds with other Tiburon area churches.

 

Rebuilding Together.  Volunteers meet each year for one day of remodeling work benefiting a worthy community project or individual family.  Projects occur on the last Saturday in April.  Email Bill Brinkman at Bill.Brinkman@hdrinc.com.

 

Honduras Project - Siempre Unidos.   Volunteers from St Stephen's Church have visited Honduras 7 times in the last 4 years to improve the living conditions for people after Hurricane Mitch and more recently to provide lifesaving treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.  Combining resources with the Honduran Diocese, All Saints' Parish, Beverly Hills, and AIDS Healthcare/Global Immunity we built and run one of only 6 anti-retroviral treatment clinics in Honduras.  We eagerly seek partnership with other churches, NGOs and interested individuals.

Bridge the Gap Tutoring.   Adults and teams provide tutoring to children at the Marin City Church of God Tuesday evenings.  Click here* for more information about the program.  You also can mail Janet Ward about the program at wardlings@earthlink.net.

 

Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School is a one week day camp filled with exciting, interactive, faith building activities for kids ages 3-10. Kids uncover great Bible adventures while discovering God's love with fun filled mornings of music, snacks, crafts, service and games.  As part of this year's mission project, campers will assemble stuffed bears to send to AIDS orphans in Africa.

Camp Create!  Come connect at Camp Create. (Ages 6-11)

Connect with visionary artists, inspiring teen mentors, new friends from diverse backgrounds and cultures, a story of transformation and your creative spirit through art, music, movement, cooking and more.

Group Workcamp.  Every summer high school youth have a fabulous opportunity to participate in a week-long work camp, growing in faith and friendship while rebuilding homes for underprivileged individuals and families.  Email Sylvia Miller-Mutia at sylvia@ststephenschurch.org.

 

 

Celebrating through Liturgy, Music and the Arts

 

Art Angels.  A 3-day art festival featuring local artists, held every other year in support of  St. Stephen’s ministries,  Contact Lois Cannady (415-435-1780) or Virginia Doyle (415-435-6540).

 

St. Stephen’s Acolytes.  A ministry of the youth of St. Stephen’s (for grades 3 and up) to serve as torch bearers and crucifers.  Email Jo Ann Haseltine at jotuckinn@juno.com.

 

Altar Guild.  This group assists in the preparation of the altar and the caretaking of the sanctuary, vestments, etc.  Email Barbara Berling at berling1@pacbell.net.

 

Lay Eucharistic Ministers.  This group serves the bread and wine at Sunday services and also performs home visits for the ill and shut-ins in the parish.   Email Zoila Schoenbrun at dicknzoila@aol.com.

Church Ushers.  If you would be interested in serving as an usher approximately once a month at any of the Sunday services (schedules are flexible).  Email Dick Grey at rgreype@earthlink.net.

 

Intercessors offer the prayers of the people during the 10:30 am Eucharist weekly.  Email Molly Arthur at molly@alliancenetworkgroup.com.
